Origin Story: Dakota herself

For as long as I can remember, dogs have been the quiet rhythm of my life—steady companions, patient teachers, and joyful chaos all rolled into one. But today, my world is shaped most by a two‑year‑old border collie named Dakota. She’s the heartbeat of our home, adored by everyone, and lovingly referred to by my son as “the wee lass.”

Dakota is a creature of motion and curiosity. Her love of long walks, new friends, and any game that involves running has inspired much of the thinking behind the features and functionality of Project Dakota. When you live with a border collie, you quickly learn that their intelligence isn’t just a trait—it’s a presence. They observe, anticipate, and participate in your life with a kind of thoughtful energy that feels almost collaborative. It made perfect sense to build a logo—and eventually an operating system—around a breed known for its brilliance.

Her name, too, carries meaning. Dakota comes from the Siouan language family and translates to “friend,” “ally,” or “united.” The more time I spend with her, the more fitting it feels. She is all three—loyal companion, steadfast partner, and the unifying force that brings our family together.

So when the idea emerged to create an operating system designed for managing life with your dog, the name was already waiting. Project Dakota isn’t just a nod to my own four‑legged friend; it’s a tribute to the bond we share with our animals. A system built around connection, intelligence, and the simple joy of having a true ally by your side.
